Norfolk Island Regional Council is pleased to announce that Cassandra Jones and Benjamin Richards have both successfully completed the 16-week aviation fire fighter training course conducted by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES).
Cassandra and Ben graduated from the School of Fire and Emergency Services Training Academy on Thursday 14 December 2017 with PUA20613 - Cert II in Public Safety Firefighting and Emergency Operations.
QFES Commissioner Katarina Carroll, APM presented the Recruit Certificates to Cassandra and Ben.
Cassandra Jones was awarded the Dan Campbell Shield. This award is presented to the recruit firefighter who demonstrated significant progressive achievement of practical firefighting skills. Of the twenty-five recruits, only two were female firefighters.
Council would like to acknowledge the work and assistance that Ron Watkins, Station Officer of the Training and Emergency Management Academy undertook to assist Cassie and Ben whilst they were training in Queensland at the Academy. His support and encouragement was invaluable.
Cassie and Ben will now take up full time duties at the Norfolk Island Fire Service, whilst continuing their further studies in firefighting operations.
